The meeting will last for four days and the course can expect to welcome over 220,000 racegoers from all over the world and it is thought that more than £600 million will be gambled throughout the week.
Will Lord Windermere be able to defend racing’s most sought-after crown in the 2015 Gold Cup, or will there be another chasing superstar that can challenge the Irish superstar? With Silviniaco Conti, Road To Riches and Many Clouds all taking aim at the ‘blue riband’ the champion will have to be at his very best.
The race has a rich history and you can see from a recent infographic that it has a roll of honour that stretches longer than the Cheltenham course itself. Dawn Run is the only horse to have completed the incredible Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup double, while the legendary Kauto Star is the only horse to ever regain his crown in the race. Bobs Worth will be attempting to do exactly that in 2015 and you’d be a brave man to bet against Nicky Henderson achieving the feat.
There are plenty of questions to be answered, but one thing is for certain and that is that it will be the greatest sporting week of the year. Race fans will be treated to an incredible four days off and on the track and the infographic also show exactly what happy punters will be spending their cash on.
The 10000 Irish fans set to make their way to Prestbury Park will help racegoers make their way through three tonnes of smoked salmon, two tonnes of fillet and sirloin of beef and a whopping 20,000 portion of chips.
The famous ‘Cheltenham Roar’ is made even louder by the 220,000 pints of Guinness downed at the Festival, the 120,000 bottles of beer and cider consumed and the 30,000 bottles of wine guzzled by happy fans. The maximum capacity at Cheltenham is 67,500 and every person that passes through the gates will be have lots of entertainment to sink their teeth into.
The Festival is the most exciting sporting event on the planet and one glance at the infographic helps explain why it remains racing’s grandest spectacle.
