California – Monica Lewinsky recently addressed how she has been taunted and ridiculed following her scandalous past affair with then U.S. President Bill Clinton in asserting that there should be an end to cyberbullying. As reported by WebProNews, in a recent TED talk Lewinsky takes a stand against cyberbullying and shares her experiences of receiving viral backlash.
Lewinsky is quoted as stating, “Now I admit I made mistakes — especially wearing that beret — but the attention and judgment that I received — not the story, but that I personally received — was unprecedented. I was branded as a tramp, tart, slut, whore, bimbo and, of course, ‘that woman.’ I was known by many, but actually known by few. I get it. It was easy to forget ‘that woman’ was dimensional and had a soul.”
She further stated in regards to how viral comments can impact people negatively, “Public humiliation as a blood sport has to stop. We need to return to a long-held value of compassion and empathy.”
As noted by WebProNews, Lewinsky also made headlines earlier this year after artist Nelson Shanks announced his making a reference to the Clinton affair controversy in a portrait that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in D.C.
