Washington – Starbucks is developing a new media company that will aim to contribute to “the national understanding around a set of key issues.” According to a report by the The Daily Meal, Washington Post journalist and former Baghdad bureau chief Rajiv Chandrasekaran has been tapped by the company to develop content for the media startup.

Startbucks will reportedly collaborate with the company for projects, focusing on the production of “social impact content.” Documentaries that highlight issues concerning veterans will be an initial focus.

Chandrasekaran is quoted as stating to the Columbia Journalism Review about the venture, “This is not going to be PR or marketing work…This is Starbucks and Howard Schultz recognizing the power of storytelling and wanting to help contribute to the national understanding around a set of key issues.”

The journalist, who also Tweeted about his transition last month, further stated, “This felt, to me, like a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The undertaking is set to begin after Chandrasekaran leaves his Post position, and will be based in Seattle.
