Google accused of age discrimination in lawsuit

California – A 64-year-old engineer is claiming he was discriminated against when he applied for a job with Google in 2011. According to a report by the rel=”nofollow” href=”http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/04/23/google-sued-by-job-candidate-for-age-discrimination/”>Wall Street Journal, Robert Heath says the company did not consider hiring him as a result of his age. The complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, California.

The lawsuit alleges that despite Heath’s experience working at Compaq, IBM, and General Dynamics, Google’s decision to not hire him for a software engineering position was based on a brief phone interview.

Heath, who was 60 years old at the time he alleges the company dismissed his application, is seeking class-action status for the case on behalf of applicants aged 40 and older who were not hired by Google.

The tech worker stated of the issue, “There are very qualified older tech workers who are out of work… We had to do something about it.”

A spokesperson for Google has said of the case, “We believe that the facts will show that this case is without merit and we intend to defend ourselves vigorously.”

Heath is being represented by the Kotchen & Low law firm.
