India – A lawsuit has been filed against Nestl? over the labeling of its Maggi noodles. The Financial Times reported that Indian authorities are seeking $100 million in damages in the suit, which accuses the company of misleading consumers about the product’s safety.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs filed the complaint Tuesday with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The filing accuses Nestl? of misleading consumers by selling “unsafe, hazardous defective and misbranded products.”
The filing reportedly escalates a dispute between the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian arm of the Swiss company listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange over the formerly best selling product produced by Nestl? India.
Nestl? India has stated that it had yet to be officially notified about the complaint at the time of the report.
