Pennsylvania – A Texas woman who recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals and drug distributor McKeeson Corp. in a Pennsylvania court is claiming the companies failed to provide adequate warning about the risks associated with taking the antibiotic Levaquin. News Inferno reported that the woman, who was administered the drug in 2006 during and after she underwent heart surgery, asserts in the complaint that neither patients nor physicians were warned that use of the drug could cause permanent nerve damage.
The woman’s complaint says that within weeks of the medication she began to experience arm and leg numbness. She subsequently went on disability as a result due to being unable to work.
The lawsuit contends that the label used on the drug from 2004 to 2013 was confusing, advising that the side effect was rare and those who experience related symptoms would see them disappear after discontinued use.
The woman is seeking compensatory as well as punitive damages.
