Canada? – A drug company is being accused of altering a study published in a medical journal co-authored by SickKids hospital’s top pediatrician. The Star reported that the company understated risks associated with a powerful antipsychotic drug in child patients.

The article, published in 2003, concluded that a correlation did not exist between the long-term use of Risperdal and a higher risk of side effects like breast development in boys.

The medical article has been cited in multiple lawsuits recently against the Janssen company to illustrate a purported example of the influence of drug companies on doctors and medical research that receives publication.

Dr. Denis Daneman, who is pediatrician-in-chief at the Hospital for Sick Children, stated of the article controversy “My name is on an article in which there is some data that has been left out. That, to me, crosses a line.”
