Georgia – Attorneys representing a Georgia man accused of causing the death of his toddler by leaving him in a hot vehicle, are seeking to have court hearings closed to the media. The Associated Press reported that the man, Justin Ross Harris, was indicted in September 2014 on multiple charges months following the June 18, 2014 incident. His son, 22-month old Cooper, was reportedly left in an SUV for approximately seven hours while temperatures reached degrees into the high 80s.
Harris has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include felony murder and cruelty to children. His attorneys have called the toddler’s death a tragic accident.
Cobb County Superior Court Judge Mary Staley is set to hear arguments on the motion to close the courtroom during a hearing on pretrial motions scheduled for Monday.
