26 Ohio Students Injured in Elementary School Food Fight

03/16/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Garfield Heights, OH — A food fight at Cranwood Elementary School left dozens of elementary and middle school students with injuries during the Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2012, free-for-all, reported My Fox 8.

The food fight broke out at the temporary home for Miles School (k-8), between students in grades fifth through eighth in the school’s cafeteria.

Twenty-six students suffered injuries that ranged from head injuries to cuts and bruises, with one student reportedly suffering a broken wrist.

Responding emergency crews transported eight students to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Students recalled that the food throwing came out of nowhere, and quickly got out-of-control.

While CMSD claims that they alerted parents of the incident as soon as it happened, parents dispute those claims and assert that they were never notified of a fight, or that anyone was hurt.

CMSD Deputy Chief Communications Officer Roseann Canfora released the following statement to Fox 8 News:

“The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is committed to providing a safe environment for our students and will not tolerate any behavior that jeopardizes their safety. We are also committed to providing accurate information about any incident in our schools. To be clear: Eight were referred for examination following a food fight in the cafeteria today. Three of the 8 students required treatment before release.”
