Crash involving CTA bus, semi-truck and minivan left five people injured.

Chicago, IL (News)—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus, semi-truck and van left five people with injuries ranging from non-life threatening to critical. The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.

According to CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory, the No. 60 Blue Island/26th bus was headed east on West Cermak Road, when it was suddenly rear-ended by an eastbound tractor-trailer. On impact, the bus veered forward, subsequently rear-ending a minivan. The chain-reaction collision occurred at the junction of West Cermak Road and South Loomis Street.

Fire Media Affairs spokesperson Quention Curtis allegedly noted that of the 12 people occupying the CTA bus at the time, five suffered injury and had to be transported to area hospitals for treatment. A female bus rider reportedly suffered severe injuries in the motor vehicle accident and was listed in critical condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. Four other adults riding on the bus at the time suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital as well as University of Illinois Medical Center. It was unknown if the driver of the minivan was hurt in the incident, while the driver of the rig declined medical treatment. It was undisclosed whether any citations were issued in connection with the wreck. Investigations are expected to be underway.
