Northampton, MA—A Pittsfield motorist was cited after becoming involved in a traffic collision with pedestrian Lord Jesus Christ. The accident occurred on Main Street in Northampton, Massachusetts on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, as reported by WWLP.com.
According to Northampton Police Lt. Michael Patenaude, 50-year-old Lord Jesus Christ was making his way across Main Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. Although Christ was occupying the crosswalk at the time, 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella failed to yield to the crossing pedestrian. As a result, Cantarella’s vehicle struck Christ, a Belchertown resident, in front of Fitzwilly’s restaurant.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were subsequently dispatched to the scene of the injurious traffic accident. Christ, who suffered minor facial injuries in the collision, was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for treatment.
Lt. Patenaude noted the pedestrian was carrying a Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicle identification card at the time, clearly identifying him as Lord Jesus Christ.
Police ticketed Cantarella for her “failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.”
Transportation-related statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) indicate there were 4,378 pedestrian fatalities in 2008. Of that total, 432 fatalities occurred between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. and 1,601 involved passenger cars.
