Chicago, IL—Talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey is facing a plagiarism lawsuit, which was filed by a Philadelphia writer who claims she read passages from his political booklet without his permission. The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, as reported by CBS News.

The writer, Charles Harris, claims that on Feb. 16, 2010, Oprah read word-for-word questions, which were identical to his political booklet “How American Elects Her Presidents” on an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

In 2008, Harris allegedly sent several copies of his booklet to the television show in hopes of gaining publicity during President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Harris claims he never received a response from the show.

“The language and structure of the questions were exactly the same,” according to the lawsuit which also asserts that the use was “deliberate, willful, malicious, oppressive and without regard to (his) property rights.”

The plagiarism lawsuit is seeing $150,000 for each alleged “unlawful use,” including statutory damages.
