New York – A new study suggests cancer survivors are generally more prone to follow health recommendations than cancer-free individuals. As reported by Reuters, researchers found that cancer survivors more often obtain recommended screenings and take other measures to stay healthy following participation in clinical trials.

Dr. Craig Earle at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences in Ontario, who reviewed previous study findings that suggested there was no causal link between clinical trial participation and improved healthcare treatment, is quoted by Reuters as stating in an email, “While there is controversy about whether participation in a clinical trial leads to higher quality care for the phase of care being tested, it does usually result in more medical attention… participating in a trial and surviving cancer may turn out to be a good thing for them in the long run.”

More information about the study findings may be available in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
