Legal news for Georgia employment attorneys. An explosion at Savannah recycling injured two workers.

Occupational Health and Safety Administration alerts Georgia employment lawyers- An explosion at a recycling plant injured two workers.

Savannah, GA—An explosion at Savannah Recycling injured two workers, who were cutting a metal tank. The explosion happened on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 around 12:00 p.m., at the Savannah Recycling plant in Garden City, as reported by WTOC.

According to Garden City fire officials, Benjamin Damian, 44, and Amando Serritos were cutting a metal tank for scrap metal when the tank exploded. Officials believe a spark from a cutting torch ignited the residue inside the tank, which caused it to blow up. The two workers claimed they had washed out the tank before they used the torch. Both Damian and Serritos were injured in the explosion. Damian reportedly suffered burns to his chest and face, and Serritos suffered a concussion. Damien was transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at the Doctors Hospital in Augusta for treatment. Serritos was also transported by EMS teams to the Memorial University for treatment of his potential traumatic brain injury (TBI). Serritos was reportedly treated by Memorial University Medical Center professionals and released. Officials with the Federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ are expected to conduct a full investigation into the blast.
