The CPSC expanded the original Durabrand DVD player recall to include pink and purple units.

Arkansas product liability attorney alert-Wal-Mart expands Durabrand DVD player recall and adds another 4.2 million units to list.

Bentonville, AR–Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has participated in a voluntary recall of approximately 4.2 million units of Durabrand DVD players. Wal-Mart is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. This recent recall is an expansion of the August 20, 2009 recall. On August 20, 1.5 million units of silver Durabrand DVD players were recalled. The expanded recall now includes the purple and pink-colored Durabrand DVD players as well. The recall was issued after safety regulators discovered a fire and burn hazard. The circuit board inside of the DVD player can overheat, putting consumers at a potential risk. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on September 1, 2009.

The following products are under federal recall:

– Silver unit: Model number 1002, bearing a 1799901002 UPC

– Pink unit: Model number 1002 PINK, bearing a 1799934100 UPC

– Purple unit: Model number 1002 PUR, bearing a 1799932100 UPC

A description and photos of the recalled DVD players can be found on the CPSC site at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09335.html. The recalled products retailed for approximately $29 at Wal-Mart establishments across the nation. They were available for sale from January 2006 to July 2009. There have been 14 incidents in which the DVD units overheated, including 7 reports of property damage due to fire. Consumers adversely affected by the recalled items may be entitled to compensation for damages. The Benton County firm urges consumers to stop using the DVD players. A complete refund is available by visiting your local Wal-Mart store. Questions regarding the recall may be directed to Wal-Mart at 800-925-6278. Additional information can be found on the company’s website at www.walmartstores.com.
