Legal news for Idaho personal injury attorneys. A school bus wrecked on its way home from a band competition.

Idaho State Police alerts Idaho personal injury attorneys- A school bus crash on Interstate 15 killed the band instructor and injured dozens of students.

Pocatello, ID—A school bus carrying the award-winning American Fork High School band crashed while en route home from a band competition. The school bus crash killed an instructor and injured numerous students. The fatal crash happened on Saturday, October 10, 2009 around 7:00 p.m., along Interstate 15, as reported by ABC4.

According to Idaho state police, 49 students were traveling on a school bus back home from a band competition in Pocatello, when the crash occurred. A preliminary investigation revealed the school bus driver reportedly suffered from a medical condition, which caused the crash. The medical condition that the driver suffered from was currently unknown.

The driver of the bus lost control, and a teacher grabbed the steering wheel in a desperate attempt to avoid the wreck, but the bus veered off the side of the road. The school bus rolled as the instructor tried to gain control of the bus, but instead she was tossed out the window as the bus rolled. The heroic woodwind instructor, Heather Christensen, 33, of Spanish Fork, Utah, was tragically killed in the wreck. Two seriously injured students were airlifted to a hospital in Pocatello by emergency medical services (EMS) ambulance helicopter. Twelve more students were rushed by EMS ambulance with serious injuries to a hospital for treatment. Thirty additional students with lesser injuries were also transported by EMS crews to an area hospital for treatment. The fatal crash is currently under investigation by police officials.

The American Fork High School band reportedly won the Pocatello competition before the fatal crash. The band has also won the Utah state title for the past 19 years, and performed at former President George Bush’s 2005 inauguration.
