Legal news for Washington D.C. personal injury attorneys. A pedestrian was hit and killed by two armored vehicles.

Park Police alerts Washington D.C. personal injury attorneys- A pedestrian was hit and killed by Secret Service armored vehicles.

Washington, D.C.—Two United States Secret Service armored vehicles, which are occasionally used to transport Vice President Joe Biden, struck and fatally injured a pedestrian. The government vehicles slammed into the pedestrian on the rain covered Suitland Parkway and Naylor Road intersection around 2:27 a.m., near the District-Maryland border, as reported by the Washington Post.

U.S. Park Police and the Secret Service reported that a pedestrian was crossing the Suitland Parkway and Naylor Road intersection when a limousine and a Chevrolet Suburban, who were both driven by Secret Service employees, struck him. It is unknown if the pedestrian had the right of way. The pedestrian’s identity remains unknown until the next of kin have been notified. The two vehicles and the Secret Service employees reportedly had just flown in from Andrews Air Force Base, and were on their way to a storage facility located in the District when the fatal crash occurred.

There were no “protectees” traveling in the vehicles at the time. The Secret Service vehicles are hard to operate due to the heavy armor that the vehicles are outfitted with. Both of the drivers had completed the required ‘protective operator’s driving course,” which allows them to operate the vehicles. An autopsy and a toxicology report have been ordered to determine if the male pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. Park Police are reportedly overseeing the investigation into the fatal crash.
