Legal News for Florida Product Liability Attorneys. Investigation on recalled salmonella contaminated Rico Queso Duro Blanco continues.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced recall of cheese product due to salmonella danger.

Lake Worth, FL—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov announced that a December 23, 2009 recall of Rico Queso Duro Blanco (white hard cheese) is still under investigation after the product was contaminated with salmonella, reports the FDA. Limeno LLC issued the recall.

The product, which was distributed by Flores Food of America, was sold in 16 ounce, clear plastic packages with the Rico Queso name brand printed on it. The recalled cheese was reportedly distributed throughout the state of Florida and sold in local retail stores.

When the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) conducted routine testing on the products manufactured by this particular company, they found that salmonella was present in the cheese. Salmonella causes a bacterial food borne illness that is particularly dangerous for children, the elderly, and other individuals with weakened immune systems. When the infection affects a healthy individual, symptoms allegedly tend to include fever, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. It was also reported that in uncommon cases, arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis could result from the organism getting into the affected individuals’ blood stream. No illnesses have been reported though the investigation continues. Consumers have been urged to return the recalled product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
