Motor Vehicle Collision: 9 injured after MI crash

Michigan personal injury lawyer alerts- Nine people suffered crash injuries in wreck involving pickup truck and 16-passenger van.

Isabella County, MI—A two-vehicle crash involving a 16-passenger van and a pickup truck left two people injured on Monday morning, January 18, 2010, according to information provided by TheMorningSun.com. Nine people allegedly occupied the van at the time of the violent motor vehicle collision (MVC).

A 1999 Ford 16-passenger van, driven by 54-year-old Leon Neal Cook, was reported traveling south on Mission Road at East Weidman Road when the 11:51 a.m. wreck occurred. Simultaneously, a pickup truck, driven by 40-year-old Renee Bartlett, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at Mission Road after reportedly becoming distracted by his GPS system. The pickup truck struck the 16-seater van, consequently causing it to flip over.

Cook, along with eight family members who were traveling in the van as well, were trapped in the vehicle until emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene help them out. The passengers in the van were identified as Wendy Cook, 54; Julie A. Cook, 23; Aaron Cook, 28; Brian Richard Cook, 18; Logan Cook, 13; Libby Cook, 15; Betsey Cook, 20; and Naomi Cook, 11. All of the van’s occupants except for the driver, Leon Cook were taken to area hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses. Four of the Cooks’ were transported to Central Michigan Community Hospital for the treatment of their crash injuries. Two were taken to Covenant Hospital and two others to MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare. The pickup truck driver was also reportedly transported to CMCH but then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital. Isabella County Sheriff’s Department officials did not disclose the extents of their injuries. It was also unknown if charges are pending.
