Study Says Toddlers with Eczema More Likely to Face Mental Problems as They Grow
February 12, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ A study coming out of Germany makes a link between toddlers with eczema and increased psychological problems in those children as they grow older.
The researchers found that children who suffered from eczema during their first two years were more likely to demonstrate psychological abnormalities, in particular emotional problems, at age 10 than children of the same age who had not suffered from the disease. The study goes on to say that children whose eczema persisted beyond age two were more likely to have mental health problems than children who had eczema only in infancy.
Eczema itself may not be as much to blame as the disease’s side effects are, the researchers said. Children with eczema can suffer from a constant stream of hay fever, allergic asthma and sleep disorders.
