Legal news for Colorado bus accident lawyers. The bicyclist injured in RTD bus crash died from his injuries.

The bicyclist involved in the Regional Transportation District bus crash has died.

Denver, CO—The bicyclist who was hit by Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 has succumbed to his injuries. Marvin “Chip” Webb, 42, died on Wednesday afternoon, April 7, 2010, which prompted the RTD to require its operators to complete a safety refresher course, as reported by the Denver Post.

Webb is the fourth person to die as a result of a collision with an RTD in less than a week. The Lafayette man was reportedly riding his bike on East City Center Circle across South Public Road around 9:45 p.m. As he approached an RTD bus that was stopped at a red light as it was pulling out of a park-n-Ride. When the traffic light turned green, the public transportation bus made a left turn from City Center onto South Public Road. An RTD spokesperson stated, “As the light turned green, he proceeded across the intersection, (and) a bicycle was coming eastbound on City Center and collided with that bus…The bus was going at a very slow speed on the turn and stopped instantly.” Webb was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Denver Health Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

The RTD, which employs over 1,000 bus and light-rail operators, is requiring the operators to take safety refresher courses as a result of the string of accidents. In addition, 750 bus drivers employed by private contractors that service about 45 percent of the RTD routes will be included in the new safety measure.
