Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. Anchorage, Alaska-based Polar Bear Gift Shop and the CPSC recalled children’s hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings.

Product liability lawyer alert- Strangulation hazards prompt product safety recall of kid’s sweatshirts with drawstrings, as reported by CPSC.

Anchorage, AK—Polar Bear Gift Shop, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov, has participated in the voluntary recall of approximately 300 children’s hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings. The product safety recall was announce on Monday, April 26, 2010, and was issued with regard to the strangulation hazards the drawstrings may pose to children wearing the recalled attire.

Although no injuries or adverse incidents have been reported in connection with the defective product recall, according to the CPSC, “The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.”

The hazardous sweatshirts are yellow and have “John Moose” and “Alaska” printed on the front of them. The brand name “Gaxiani”, along with the RN# 55774, is reportedly printed on the neck tag of the sweaters as well.

These recalled kid’s sweatshirts with drawstrings, which were manufactured in Mexico, were sold at the Polar Bear Gift Shop in Anchorage, Alaska for approximately $15. They were sold from February 2008 to August 2009.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled sweatshirts have been urged to remove the drawstrings immediately, which will eliminate the dangers associated with the clothing. Consumers also have the option to return the recalled sweatshirts to Polar Bear Gift Shop and receive a full reimbursement. Polar Bear Gift Shop can be reached collect at (907) 274-4387 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT, or at the company’s Web site at www.PolarBearGifts.net.
