News for Florida train accident lawyers- FHP authorities to probe Levy County, FL SUV-train collision left nine people with various injuries.

Levy County, FL—An injurious railway accident involving a sport utility vehicle and a cargo train left nine people with injuries on Sunday, April 25, 2010. The locomotive-involved collision occurred at County Road 464 and Southeast 200th Avenue in Levy County, Florida, according to information provided by Ocala.com.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Lt. John Gourley reported a Lincoln Navigator SUV “struck the first engine of the train broadside while it was in motion” for unknown reasons. A 911 call was made at approximately 1 p.m. with regard to the train-related wreck, subsequently dispatching Levy County Sheriff’s Office deputies to the scene. There were nine people riding in the SUV when it slammed into the side of the locomotive.

Emergency medical services (EMS) responders from Levy and Marion counties arrived at the scene of the train-vehicle collision to transport those injured in the accident, which consisted of all nine SUV occupants, to area hospitals for treatment. Three of the SUV’s occupants, ages 4, 7 and 16, suffered critical injuries and were rushed to area hospitals. The ages of six of the nine victims riding in the SUV at the time allegedly ranged from one to 16. The cargo train’s operator, identified as 42-year-old Cindy Quick, was not hurt in the accident.

Reports noted that while adverse weather conditions hindered medical helicopters from aiding in the transportation of crash victims to hospitals, FHP troopers apparently did not believe the storms played a role in the train-SUV collision.

A full investigation in expected to be underway.
