Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. Step2® Basic Rhythms Drums™ were voluntarily recalled for they may pose a potential choking risk to toddlers.

Product liability lawyer alert- CPSC announced defective product recall of toy drums due to the chocking hazards they may pose to children using them.

Streetsboro, OH—The Step2 Company LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada (HC), has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 21,000 Step2® Basic Rhythms Drums™ due to the potential choking hazard they may pose to the children using them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

While no injuries have been reported in connection with the hazardous toy drum sets, according to the CPSC press release, “The plastic clips used to attach the drumsticks to the drum can break. The small broken pieces present a choking to young children.”

The Step2® Basic Rhythms Drums™, which are intended for recreational use by preschool age children, come equipped with two drumsticks and clips to attach the drumsticks to the toy, when not being used by youngsters. Also, a red “Step2®” logo can be found on the side of the toy.

The Step2® Basic Rhythms Drums™ were manufactured in China and sold by retailers, including Toys “R” Us and Burlington Coat Factory, nationwide from August 2009 to March 2009. Prices ranged from $10 to $15.

Consumers who have purchased the Step2® Basic Rhythms Drums™ have been urged to confiscate the potentially dangerous toys from children to prevent a possible chocking hazard. Consumers may then contact Streetsboro, Ohio-based Step2 toll-free at (866) 860-1887 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, or visit the company’s Web site at www.Step2.com, to receive a replacement toy.
