Dallas, TX—Rescue teams finally recovered the body of the missing City of Dallas employee who disappeared the day before. Not long after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, the 37-year-old sanitation worker was pulled from the McCommas Bluff Landfill, as reported by WFFA.

The unidentified sanitation worker reportedly went missing sometime after 1 p.m. on Monday, when he checked in to unload his truck at the landfill. Another employee found his truck still running and abandoned at around 3:00 p.m., prompting the search.

Teams from the Dallas Police Department, Fire-Rescue and the City of Dallas combed the landfill in hopes of finding the worker up until 9:30 p.m., Monday night when visibility diminished. The search resumed Tuesday morning, when they discovered his body around 10:00 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials believe the victim, who is a three-year employee of the sanitation department, was attempting to dump another truck load of trash when he somehow fell into the landfill.

Police officials are withholding the identity of the deceased sanitation worker. Officials with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct an investigation into the fatal workplace accident.
