Charlotte, NC– Police have located and arrested the man responsible for hitting a pack of bicyclists. The group of cyclists were struck on May 19, 2010 along St. Stephen’s Church Road in Cabarrus County, as reported by WSOCTV.
Highway Patrol troopers say Daniel Burton Wilson II, 21, is the man responsible for hitting the six bike riders. Wilson was reportedly headed in the opposite direction when he hit several of them.
Four cyclists were rushed to area hospitals by responding rescue teams for treatment. It was not reported what types of injuries the bicyclists endured.
Wilson later turned himself in to officials, who then charged him with six counts of felony hit-and-run.
The names and conditions of the bicyclists were not disclosed.
The bicyclists were reportedly part of a cycling team called the Gary Fisher Subaru Team.
According to North Carolina laws, bicycles are considered to be vehicles. The state’s traffic laws require cyclists to ride “predictably and courteously” to keep traffic moving and to avoid accidents.
It is unknown what caused Wilson to hit the pack of cyclists. It was not determined if drugs and/or alcohol played a role.
