U.S. – A new study suggests individuals who paint professionally may have a higher risk of developing bladder cancer. As reported by HealthDay News, researchers found after analyzing approximately 3,000 bladder cancer cases, that painters had a 30 percent increased risk for the cancer than others, with the number of years worked in the profession impacting the risk for the disease.
Neela Guha of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, and colleagues are quoted in the report as writing of their findings, “Because several million people are employed as painters worldwide, even a modest increase in the relative risk is remarkable.”
More information about the study may be available in the July 20 online publication of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
