Boston – A program is helping young cancer patients with making a return to school. As reported by UPI.com, the back-to-school program at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston seeks to assist with answering questions classmates of children with cancer may have about their condition and make young patients less anxious about their return.
Lisa Scherber, who heads the program, is quoted in the report as saying of it in a statement, “We want to take away the fear the classmates might have of being able to play with her the same way that they played with her beforehand… It’s also for her classmates to sort of make them feel like it’s OK, we can support our friend because now we understand what cancer is.”
