US – A new study demonstrates the potential effects quality of life care can have on the survival of terminal cancer patients. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), researchers found that early inclusion of palliative care during treatment may help extend the lives of cancer patients by months.
Dr. R. Sean Morrison, president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and a doctor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, is quoted by the AP as stating of the impact of palliative care on survival, “When people feel better, they’re much more likely to go for their treatment, to get up out of bed, to exercise.”
