Sept. 13. 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ — The US Department of Agriculture not only knew about the sanitary conditions at an egg production farm, it considered the conditions “routine,” according to a new report.
The Wall Street Journal reports that health authorities were not notified of sanitary conditions at Wright County Egg, one of two farms at the center of a salmonella contamination recall, because “the conditions at the egg plant packing facilities were routine.” Two Iowa farms have been linked to salmonella contamination in more than 500,000 eggs.
The USDA was the only federal body with a regular presence at Wright County Egg, but it says it wasn’t responsible for safety, the Journal reports.
