CPSC Recall: Craftsman Riding Mowers Pose Projectile-Related Injury Risks

Milwaukee, WI—Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group, LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled Craftsman riding mowers due to projectile-related injury hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 500 units, on Friday, October 15, 2010.

According to the CPSC news release, “These riding mowers came to consumers with the side discharge chute not fully secured to the mower. Bolts can be forcefully discharged from mower if not properly tightened, posing an injury hazard to consumers.”

The Milwaukee-based manufacturer received word of once instance in which a bolt was violently ejected from a riding mower, consequently resulting in a broken window.

The black Craftsman riding mowers with model number 107.28034 with the one of the following serial numbers are affected by the recall:

• 2014033403 through 2014034552

• 2014082112 through 2014082861

• 2014149995 through 2014151266

• 2014346290 through 2014346803

The defective Craftsman riding mowers were made available for purchase at nationwide Sears stores from February 2010 through May 2010. The product cost approximately $1,400.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the recalled riding mowers and contact Sears to for a complimentary inspection and repair. All known consumers have been sent letters detailing how to schedule a free inspection and repair.
