Lockwood, MO—Prairie Mountain Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled approximately 6,200 youth hooded wind/rain jackets due to strangulation hazards associated with them. The CPSC, which announced the recall on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, established guidelines to help protect children from strangulation and entrapment risks posed by drawstrings in February 1996.

While no injuries have yet to be reported in connection with the potentially dangerous youth hooded wind/rain jackets, the Missouri-based manufacturer initiated the recall to prevent kids from strangling on the jacket’s drawstring.

According to the CPSC news release, “The recalled Youth Rip Stop hooded wind rain jackets are lightweight jackets sold in sizes 2/4, 6/8, 10/12 and 14/16 in red, Royal (blue), and Leaf (green).”

The youth jackets were made available for purchase at vacation gift shops nationwide between February 2010 and July 2010. They were sold for about $20.

Consumers are advised to either remove the drawstring from the jacket to eliminate the hazard altogether, or contact Prairie Mountain at (800) 370-4941 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET to find out how to obtain a full reimbursement.

The company can also be reached on its website at www.prairiemountain.net or via e-mail at mikegaler@prairiemountain.net.
