San Diego, CA — A female pedestrian was injured after she was hit by a trolley while chasing her runaway dog on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. The pedestrian accident occurred in downtown San Diego at West Ash Street near Pacific Highway around 6 p.m., reported 10News.
San Diego police reported that the woman was chasing her Chihuahua down the sidewalk that had apparently got loose, when the dog skirted around a trolley. The woman chased after the dog, where she was blindsided and hit by the trolley.
The impact of the collision threw the woman about 20 to 30 feet, and left an imprint on the front of the trolley.
Responding emergency crews rushed the woman to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of a broken wrist and fractured bones in her face. She is reportedly listed in stable condition.
The dog was not injured.
The Chihuahua is at the Department of Animal Services while the woman is recovering in the hospital.
Police have attributed the collision to “inattention” by the pedestrian.
“You got a professional woman that’s chasing after a dog and obviously is more concerned about the safety of her dog than her own safety,” said San Diego police Sgt. Art Doherty.
The victim reportedly teaches at Southwestern College.
