Illinois – Nurses at the Des Plaines based Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital may go on strike as soon as Monday, March 10 after filing an intent notice. As reported by the Daily Herald, although the intent to strike notice has been filed, negotiations between representatives of the psychiatric hospital and the Illinois Nurses Association will continue this week.
The nurses are claiming the hospital’s management has engaged in “unfair labor practices.” The union’s membership agreed to the authorization of a strike in a unanimous vote last week.
Union spokesman Chris Martin is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “This is following the legal process drawn out by the National Labor Relations Board… When negotiations don’t advance, there’s a process to follow. We’re following the law in filing a 10-day notice.”
According to officials, 26 negotiating sessions have taken place between both sides since February of last year.
