With the successful launch of Mercedes-Benz’s new entry-level CLA-Class last year, it made sense for the luxury automaker to move its best-selling C-Class upmarket. Even so, the redesigned 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is packed with performance and features that buck its modest price increase, all while dropping up to 200 pounds and donning design lines pulled from the flagship S-Class.
Currently arriving at dealerships, the 2015 C-Class offers two new engines, including a 241-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder that boosts output by 20 percent in the C300 and a bi-turbo V6 that produces 329 horsepower in the C400. For now, the new C-Class is only available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, though a base C300 model with rear-wheel drive will go on sale early next year. With its large, star-adorned grille, elongated hood and sculpted lines along its flanks, the compact luxury sedan follows in the footsteps of the revered current-generation S-Class when it comes to styling.
“The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is always in heated competition with models like the BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS, but this new generation has them beat in style, performance and even standard features,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Haverhill, Mass. “After the new S-Class redefined what’s possible to include in a luxury car and the new CLA-Class redefined value in the luxury market, it was only logical for the 2015 C-Class to inherit cutting-edge qualities from both vehicles.”
Inside the new C-Class’ well-appointed cabin, drivers will find a centrally located, freestanding seven-inch or 8.4-inch color display controlled by a new touchpad, while five round air vents in the dashboard also pull their metallic look from the S-Class. Other new standard features include keyless start and Collision Prevention Assist Plus, which incorporates radar to determine the distance and speed difference between the C-Class and the vehicle ahead, alerting the driver to brake if they get too close too fast. For the first time, buyers can also opt for a color Head-Up Display that shows relevant information closer to the driver’s line of sight.
