Texas – The first patient to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States has been confirmed. As reported by AFP, U.S. health officials confirmed the diagnosis of a patient in a Dallas hospital on Tuesday.
The patient was reportedly infected in Liberia before traveling to the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the man is also believed to be the first patient diagnosed with the deadly virus outside of Africa.
As noted in the report, the patient did not present symptoms of Ebola until September 24, days after arriving in the United States. He was placed in hospital isolation four days later.
CDC chief Tom Frieden is quoted as stating of the case, “At this point there is zero risk of transmission on the flight. The illness of Ebola would not have gone on for 10 days before diagnosis… He was checked for fever before getting on the flight and there is no reason to think that anyone on the flight that he was on would be at risk.”
