Illinois? – A recent lawsuit claims that the anti nausea drug Zofran led to the development of a heart defect in a woman’s son. The Legal Examiner reported that the lawsuit, which is one of multiple Zofran lawsuits, was filed August 13, 2015.

The medicine, produced by GlaxoSmithKline, is a potent drug used for treating nausea in patients who have undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery. The plaintiff says she was prescribed the medication for the treatment of morning sickness during the first trimester of her pregnancy. The woman claims her son was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect in 2009 five months after she gave birth.

The Illinois mother says her son, who is now six years old, has dealt with severe developmental delays and health complications.

The report says that the number of legal claims filed over the Zofran drug has reached at least 34.
